STAFF:Terry Davison - Youth Head CoachSORA is thankful to have Coach Terry on staff. Although his coaching background started with soccer, Coach Terry has been an extremely successful rowing coach since emigrating from Ireland to the United States. He has a passion for teaching young people to become "elite individuals" in all facets of life and finds that sport is a great way to do that. Terry has coached SORA rowers to significant accomplishments including: 7 Erg Sprints championships, 3rd place at Crash B's, 6 Florida state championships, 3 SE Regional Championships, and 3 top-6 finishes (grand final) at US Rowing Youth Nationals. His rowers have been invited to US Rowing selection camp with 2 making the Jr National Team. Additionally, many rowers have gone on to college rowing careers on rowing scholarships. For the Davison's, rowing is a family affair. Terry became involved in rowing when his two sons, Joe and Ben, started rowing in high school. Under Terry's tutelage both became passionate life-long rowers! Ben is a rowing coach at Ohio State, and a University of Washington graduate who was named the PAC-12 Men's Rowing Athlete of the Year in 2019. Notably, he is also a two time Olympian with team USA! He recently competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and finished fourth in the men's double sculls. He competed in Tokyo in the 2020 games, and helped the United States to a fourth place finish in the men's eight. Joe is a SORA adjunct coach who frequently volunteers to help train our youth rowers. With an infectious smile and a passion for helping young rowers reach their full potential, he is a much loved mentor at team SORA. Joe is a registered nurse at Nemours Hospital, where he continues his commitment to helping others. Before moving to the United States in 2006, Coach Terry served 7 years in the British Merchant Navy and 25 years with the British Police. With the British police, he served in various departments including criminal investigation department (CID) where he was promoted to rank of Inspector, special operations, rapid entry, Large Scale disturbances, and Counter Terrorist Search Advisory (training with the British Army).
