We are proud to have one of the strongest and well-rounded coaching staffs in the area with support for programs ranging from middle school to masters (adult) rowing. We also have one of the most well respected adaptive (disabled) rowing programs in the state. Each of our coaches keeps safety as their #1 priority as they work to make SORA a great experience for all our rowers. This page is a work-in-progress and will be updated frequently.
SORA is very excited to welcome Coach Terry to the staff! Although his coaching background started with soccer, Coach Terry has been an extremely successful rowing coach since emigrating from Ireland to the United States.. He has a passion for teaching young people to become "elite individuals" in all facets of life and finds that sport is a great way to do that.
Coach Terrys rowing accomplishments include: 7 Erg Sprints championships, 3rd place at Crash B's, 6 Florida state championships, 3 SE Regional Championships, and 3 top-6 finishes (grand final) at USRowing Youth Nationals. His rowers have been invited to USRowing selection camp (2013, 2014 and 2016) with 2 making the Jr National Team. Additionally, many rowers have gone on to college rowing careers on rowing scholarships.
For the Davisons, rowing is a family affair. The reason Terry got involved with rowing in the first place was that his two sons, Joe and Ben, started rowing in high school. Under Terry's tutelage both became passionate life-long rowers! Ben is currently rowing in college at Washington University (in addition to rowing on the USA National team and Under 23 team) and SORA is excited to welcome Joe to our coaching staff as a Middle School coach.
Before moving to the United States in 2006, Coach Terry served 7 years in the British Merchant Navy and 25 years with the British Police. With the British police, he served in various departments including criminal investigation department (CID) where he was promoted to rank of Inspector, special operations, rapid entry, Large Scale disturbances, and Counter Terrorist Search Advisory (training with the British Army). His most satisfying moments with the British Police were while serving in Criminal Investigation.
